I'm John Harvey

Creator of Sports Characters™ and I help people just like you to breakthrough their blockages and experience more success in the areas of their sporting life that matter most.

As a peak performance researcher and master coach I specializes in working with athletes & coaches by guiding them beyond the shackles of their current limitations (been through a few myself) and into new possibilities.

Having worked with a wide range of people from the slums of India to the biggest sporting stages in the world, I am passionate about the people I work with and seeing them become the ultimate version of themselves. The proven methods and systems I use, help you to become more clear, confident and courageous in your field of play. Known for being unapologetically direct and deeply compassionate with my clients. I understand that you are as unique as the journey you have taken to get to where you are.

I'm not for everyone

THINGS PEOPLE EITHER LOVE OR HATE ME FOR…

( but will never change )

1

I'll call it as it is

There is a time and a place for all feedback but without a direct and honest reflection we stagnate. My clients appreciate the contrast and honesty I provide them with.

2

Keeping it light

I enjoy not taking myself too seriously at times and don't mind impersonating different accents with favorites being Indian and British.

3

Holistic approach

I prefer a more holistic approach to life where I value the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects and recognize them as valid, important and impacting each other.

4

Not perfect

I don't claim to be perfect, nor promote the idea and believe mistakes are a vital part of the journey. Those looking for a perfect coach are likely ridge and won't appreciate my style.

5

Is a dreamer

I believe in the beauty of our dreams and that they are worth working towards. I see enormous value in what our goals and dreams require of us to overcome.

6

Self awareness

I agree with Billy Jean King when she stated that "self awareness is probably the most important thing in becoming a champion" which is the reason we developed Sports Characters™.

Some of John's personal struggles..

As a young aspiring athlete in my early 20’s I found myself getting dizzy in the pool early one morning. Needing help with getting out of the pool and into the shower I could not even feel the water temperature which was the first sign something was wrong.

I had burnt out completely, the doctors called it “chronic fatigue” which was a type of syndrome that left you feeling weak and tired most of the day and they told me there was no cure.

I couldn’t believe it, I had put over 13 years of my life into the sport of tennis and it was ending right before my eyes when I finally felt so close to a long awaited breakthrough.

The devastation I felt was like a wave engulfing me and as my health and fitness deteriorated with each passing day a depression overtook me that felt literally like there was a dark cloud over my head that had me pinned down.

Spending months at a time mostly in bed, I struggled with the question of “who am I” now that I could no-longer play my beloved sport of tennis each day.

What was I going to do with my life? And would I ever recover from the struggle of chronic fatigue?

I felt like a failure and that everything was lost. It was my first ground zero and it was hard.

Finally drawing on the wisdom my mother and a mentor called Mr Vincent taught me, I found a way to get back up from the loss of everything that mattered most to me.

As I began to recover, I started listening to the whisper within that said there must be a way to also recover from this so called incurable chronic fatigue.

Shortly after I met a holistic doctor who over the next year helped me recover completely.

Through these struggles and others like them I learnt the value of how important the right mentor and guidance can be in so many areas of our lives and I am grateful to each of these people to supported me in finding a way through.

I learnt the power of our mindset and how our beliefs and self-talk play are major roll in whether we remain stuck in our current limitations  or experience a real breakthrough towards our goals and dreams.
